UPDATE: Thank you so much to all those who donated generously. We have exceeded our $200K matching target, but will still be taking donations. Intrepid covers 100% of administration fees, to ensure your full donation goes to the Australian Red Cross Bushfire Emergency Appeal.

At a time of year when most Aussies would normally be enjoying summer and relaxing with family and friends, the world has been transfixed by the horrors of the Australian bushfires.

The bushfires have already ravaged almost 6 million hectares of land – by comparison, 900,000 hectares of land burned in the Amazon Rainforest last August*. To date, millions of animals and more than 20 people across Victoria and New South Wales have died, with fears of a rising death toll as the fires progress. It’s a devastating crisis of epic proportions and we feel compelled to act in any way we can.

DONATE TO THE INTREPID FOUNDATION’S BUSHFIRE EMERGENCY APPEAL NOW

That’s why, over the weekend Intrepid launched an emergency appeal via our non-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, with all funds going to the Australian Red Cross Bushfire Emergency Appeal. The Red Cross are currently supporting thousands of people who have been displaced by the fires in evacuation centres across Australia, offering emergency grants to affected families, psychological trauma support and expert advice to community leaders and services.

We originally aimed to raise $100K, with Intrepid Travel matching all donations dollar for dollar – and we were overwhelmed to have achieved this in less than 48 hours after launching the appeal. So, thanks to the generosity of those who donated, Intrepid have decided to increase the matching offer to match all donations up to $200k, doubling the impact of every dollar donated through The Intrepid Foundation.

Intrepid’s CEO and Chair of The Intrepid Foundation, James Thornton is encouraging everyone to get behind the appeal.

“Intrepid stands in solidarity with communities who are being directly affected by this national crisis and we encourage people to donate to the fund, so their dollars are matched by us,” he said.

Noel Clement, Acting CEO from the Australian Red Cross added how appreciative they are of the support the appeal has gathered.

“We really appreciate this generous support from Intrepid, as well as all the amazing support we have been receiving from Australians and people overseas. Our specialist emergency teams are right now supporting thousands of people in evacuation centres and recovery hubs across Australia as these fires continue to impact so many communities.”

Donations made through The Intrepid Foundation will support the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund to give people the support they need as a result of the current bushfire crisis in Australia. Show your support and donate now.
