Recognition for the innovation behind our new carbon labels puts Intrepid among the likes of Google, Mattel and Matador Network.
Intrepid has again been recognised as one of Fast Company’s World’s Most Innovative Companies – an honour that doesn’t get old.
This annual list ranks businesses across all sectors and from around the world that are setting new standards and shaping industry and culture through their innovations. This year, Intrepid was recognised in the travel, leisure and hospitality category for our carbon labelling program.
In 2023, we added carbon labels to over 500 trip pages on our website, which show the total CO2-e generated per traveller per day of the trip. We rolled these out to inform travellers and help them better understand the impact of their travel choices.
While we work to add more labels to more trips, we’ve also released an open-source guide to carbon labelling and trip emissions calculations for the wider travel industry. Our hope is that other tour operators will use this technical guide to calculate the greenhouse gas emissions of their trips and share this info with their customers.
“By working together, exchanging learnings and helping each other come on the journey, we can achieve more impactful outcomes than anyone could in isolation,” said Dr Susanne Etti, our global environmental impact manager, who spearheaded our carbon labelling program.
This is the fifth time Fast Company has included Intrepid in their annual list. In 2023, we were included in the corporate social responsibility category for a number of diversity, equity and inclusion projects, which are still underway.
