7 new incredible camping spots for 2025

written by Queenie Shaikh December 2, 2024

From beaches and dunes to mountains and lost cities, unroll your sleeping bag in some of the most spectacular spots around the globe.

Grab your camping gear. In 2025, Intrepid is introducing seven new camping experiences that will take your love for the great outdoors to a whole other level.

Whether you’re exploring the rugged beauty of Cape York in Australia, trekking through remote landscapes in Ladakh, India, or stargazing in Morocco, each of these new overnight stays offers an unexpected way to connect with nature.

1. Embrace the yurt in Central Asia

Set off on a nine-day journey along the historic Silk Route in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan where ancient trails meet even older landscapes. The new Premium Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan trip includes a yurt-making workshop led by a local craftsman, who will teach you how to construct these traditional structures using only manual tools. After this hands-on experience, relax in a yurt camp (your home for the night) and join your group for dinner on the shore of one of the largest lakes in the world: Lake Issyk-Kul.

2. Camp on the beach in North Queensland

Experience the magic of camping on Chilli Beach in Australia’s far North Queensland. After an adventurous day exploring the Iron Range and Wenlock Goldfield’s goldmine ruins, you’ll set up camp right by the beach, surrounded by palm trees. As the sun sets, gather around the campfire with your group and stargaze under the clear night sky – an unforgettable moment on the new 11-day Cape York & Torres Strait Explorer trip.

3. Sleep under night skies in Alaska’s wilderness

Camping and hiking in Alaska is every bit the wilderness adventure you think it’s going to be. This new eight-day trip is Intrepid’s only camping experience in the state. You’ll sleep under the stars in Denali National Park, Seward and other wild locations to feel truly immersed in nature. Hike famous trails such as Harding Icefield and Glacier Lake, all while keeping an eye out for moose, bears and orcas, with an expert leading the way.

4. Stargaze in Morocco’s Agafay Desert

This nine-day Premium Morocco Highlights trip now features a memorable stay at Agafay desert camp south of Marrakech. Once you’ve ticked off landmarks such as the Mosque of Hassan II in Casablanca and the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, you’ll head into the red-rock desert. Settle into your tent as the sun throws some final dramatic lighting over the dunes. Once night falls, join a guided stargazing session to spot constellations and planets in the clear sky.

5. Make camp 4800 m above sea level in India

The new India: Trekking in Ladakh trip will take you to some of the most sparsely populated lands in India, ending with a night of camping at Nimaling, at an altitude of 4800 metres (1574 feet). This high plateau offers views of lush green plains bordered by towering, snowcapped mountains, including the Kang Yatze at 6400 metres (21,000 feet). As night falls, your surroundings come to life with local villagers stepping out to guide sheep, goats and yaks to graze.

6. Try traditional ger camping in Mongolia

Embark on an extraordinary 11-day Trans-Mongolian Railway Adventure, travelling from China to Mongolia through some of the world’s most remote landscapes. One of the highlights of this new trip is a traditional ger camping experience in Khustai National Park. After exploring Ulaanbaatar and visiting the Chinggis Khan Statue, you’ll unwind at your ger camp in the heart of Mongolia’s grasslands and wildlife.

7. Kick back on Colombia’s Lost City trek

This new exhilarating Lost City Trekking in Colombia trip centres around a four-day trek through the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains to Teyuna, also known as the Lost City. Along the way, you’ll meet local Indigenous communities, relax by the Buritaca River and climb 1200 stone steps to explore an archaeological marvel that predates Machu Picchu. After each day of tackling humid rainforest and mountain trails, kick back at camp to swap tales (and maybe some blister remedies) with your fellow adventurers and then drift off in a rustic bunk or hammock.

Revel in the bazaar

Marrakech is synonymous with sensory overload. But if you slow down and tune in to the everyday rhythm of local life – often found in the souks of the labyrinthine medina and the city’s vibrant main square – a distinctly Moroccan beat emerges.
