Why you'll love this trip
  • Experience a once-in-a-lifetime chance to camp at the Black Mambas headquaters, the world's first all-female anti-poaching unit. Join them for a bush walk to search for snares and hear their inspiring stories around the campfire in the evening.
  • Go on an epic safari in search of lions, hyenas and more through Kruger National Park – one of the largest National Parks in southern Africa.
  • Go overland in a purpose-built truck and stop to take in geological wonders like Bourke’s Luck Potholes along the Panorama Route.
  • Experience St Lucia from a whole new perspective on a guided Boat Safari down this UNESCO-listed landmark.
  • Swap four wheels for two legs on a guided walking safari through the Hlane Royal National Park with an expert Swazi guide, keeping an eye out for antelopes and zebras passing by.
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Intrepid Foundation partner, Helping Rhinos. Donations support the Black Mambas in fighting wildlife crimes and protecting rhinos and other critically endangered animals from poachers.

Is this trip right for you?
  • This is an overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visiting remote communities, setting up your own tent, occasionally roughing it in the bush with no facilities, and getting the best possible views of Africa's iconic wildlife. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have sliding windows, which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take spectacular snaps of the local wildlife. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie. For more info on this style of travel, see our Africa overland page: https://www.intrepidtravel.com/africa/overland
  • There will be many early starts either to make better use of the safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.
  • For your accommodation and campsites on your adventure, facilities do vary, and wi-fi is not always available. Accommodation upgrades are often available.
  • This trip can be partnered with other adventures into a ‘combo’, which means that some of your fellow travellers may carry on to further destinations at the end of this tour. If you’d like to spend more time in Africa, have a look at the combo itinerary: Kruger, Coast & Cape (UBOSC)

Incredible way to visit this very special part of Africa. Driving from place to place and passing through the diverse landscape was such an adventure, the animals were a spectacular bonus. Plus our crew, Brilliant and Thomas kept us happy and safe, total rockstars!

We got to see The Big Five. South Africa was quite good, Eswatini (Hlane) was absolutely fantastic - how often do you have a trafic jam because the rhinos didn't want to move?

This trip is absolutely unique & stunning! Be aware you will be camping, sleeping on the ground, doing a lot of food prep, dishes, and putting tents up and down so it is camping! But nothing beats waking up at 3 am and hearing the sound of lions roaring or hyenas! Also, as someone who usually travels cities, this is a lot of animal watching. So, don't be surprised when on day 9 you're still driving around looking for animals!
