Why you'll love this trip
  • Get wild in Jasper National Park, where it’s possible to spot moose, elk, deer, bears and coyotes among the sea of evergreen pine and spruce trees.
  • Take an included canoeing adventure and camp overnight on the remote shore of Clearwater Lake, where you can fall asleep under a blanket of stars.
  • Enjoy plenty of free time to explore Canada’s premier outdoor adventure hub, Whistler, at your own pace. Hike rugged trails or munch on ‘beaver tails’ – the choice is yours.
  • Lakes, mountains, glaciers: the Rockies feature an array of striking landscapes that are remarkable no matter what time of year you visit.
  • This tour gets you to the heart of the best destinations in the Canadian Rockies with a wilderness-loving local as your guide.
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll learn about our Intrepid Foundation partner, Water First. Donations support their work to provide critical clean, safe water for indigenous communities in Canada. Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.

Is this trip right for you?
  • August & September 2024 departures: Due to the wildfire in Jasper National Park, visits to the park are not possible for the remainder of the 2024 season. We have adjusted itineraries to exclude this area, replacing scheduled activities in or near Jasper with alternative experiences outside the park.
  • As Canada is a huge country, this trip covers a lot of ground. Please be prepared for some long days of driving. You'll be travelling in a van with a group, so conditions may feel a little cramped. We think this is all part of the adventure of road travel, and friendships form fast in tight quarters.
  • It is not uncommon for snow to remain on the ground in higher elevations until the end of May. The presence of snow may impact certain activities such as scenic gondolas, boat trips or mountain hikes in late spring. Your trip leader will have a range of suggestions for alternative activities to do in your free time no matter the season.
  • As we're travelling through the mountains, the weather can be unpredictable. We advise wearing layers in all seasons in case conditions change during the day. We really can’t stress this enough – even in the warmer months the temperature can be very low in the mountains.
  • While this trip doesn't require a high level of fitness, for you to get the most out of the included and optional activities we recommend you are moderately fit. The hikes are a real highlight of this trip and give you access to some fantastic scenery as well as the chance to see native flora and fauna.
  • This is a participatory trip. That’s a fancy way of saying you’re not just along for the ride – you are part of a team! You know the phrase ‘the more you put in, the more you get out’? Well that’s extra true on this trip. Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and help with camp activities like food prep and washing up.
  • That teamwork also extends to our optional food kitty of approximately CAD 20 per day to cover the cost of meals. This kitty saves you worrying about stuff like where to get food or what exactly sales tax is and helps keep your costs down. Instead of paying individually as you go, it means we can bulk purchase items and cook our own food – though there’s always the chance to use it for the occasional dinner out! The kitty is optional and for your convenience, so if you've got specific dietary requirements you can opt out and purchase (and cook) your own food.

Important notes

1. There are no activities planned on Day 1 of the trip so you may arrive at any time. A welcome meeting will be held at 8am on Day 2 in Vancouver. This trip ends on arrival into Vancouver on Day 15 afternoon. The arrival time depends on each group, but we generally aim for a 3pm arrival. If you decide to fly out this day, please don't book a flight before 8pm which will give you enough time to catch a shuttle from the hotel to the airport and be there 2 hours before departure.
2. A Single Supplement to have your own room and tent is available on this trip but please note that single tents are limited due to group camping accommodations. Therefore, all single supplements are on request only.
3. A sleeping bag is required for this trip. If you would like to rent a sleeping bag locally, the cost is $50 CAD, payable in cash to your guide on Day 1 of the trip. Please advise your booking agent prior to departure if you require a sleeping bag rental.
4. Please note that In Canada the legal drinking age is 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec, and 19 in the remaining provinces and territories.
5. Due to the remote nature of the backcountry canoe trip on days 5 & 6, anyone who tests positive for Covid while on trip will not be able to join the group in the backcountry. This policy is in place to protect you and our backcountry guides. If you test positive for Covid during the trip but wish to continue with the group, your leader will assist you with making alternative arrangements (at your expense) for accommodations during the canoe trip as well as transportation to meet the group on Day 7. Please review your travel insurance policy to ensure you have trip interruption coverage included.

August & September 2024 departures: Due to the wildfire in Jasper National Park, visits to the park are not possible for the remainder of the 2024 season. We have adjusted itineraries to exclude this area, replacing scheduled activities in or near Jasper with alternative experiences outside the park.

What a fantastic trip. The Canadian Rockies are absolutely breathtaking and photographs don't do the place justice. The itinerary was altered due to the wildfires in Jasper, but I did not feel like I missed out on anything vital. Our tour guide Mikaël was a great tour guide, chef, and chauffeur. He went out of his way to ensure that we got the best experience possible, including an unforgettable hike on the glacier which might not have been originally possible due to altered itinerary following the Jasper wildfires. The hikes in Banff made for excellent views of the landscapes and Mikaël also encouraged some of the group to realise their potentials and hike to the peaks to enjoy the scenery below. The group bonded well over our love for hiking, glaciers and rafting, as well as our hatred for tortilla cheese wraps and mosquitoes. No bears, but we were lucky enough to encounter a moose as well as a porcupine in Clearwater. Worth going back for.

If you’re looking to experience a true Canadian rockies adventure with hiking, rafting, zip lining, canoeing, glaciers, emerald lakes, mountains on mountains on mountains and a top notch guide (shout out to Mikael) then look no further!

I would honestly say this trip is an 11/10! Each campsite and location brings a different experience and it allows you to be detached from the day to day life and properly enjoy the beauty of nature. The organisation of this trip is great and allows you to see such great locations, hikes, waterfalls, activities that we would have struggled to do if we had tried to do this trip ourselves. And if you’re lucky enough to have Mikaël as your guide on this trip then it will exceed any expectation you have. He keeps this trip running on schedule whilst still being a fun adventure. His passion and enthusiasm for what he does really shines through and makes you feel the same way! This is a bucket list holiday that I am very grateful to have done.

Absolute 10/10 trip. Stunning scenery, especially the Rockies and the canoe trip was a highlight. Bus was comfy, tents were spacious and waterproof and the sleeping mats were pretty good. Our guide Mikael was amazing. He cooked delicious meals every night, made us laugh and shared lots of great info about Canada.
