Why you'll love this trip
  • Head out on a very special bush walk with members of the world's first all-female anti-poaching unit – the Black Mambas. During this exclusive experience, learn how they're deterring poachers and patrolling 20,000 hectares of nature reserve, then spend the evening listening to their stories by the campfire.
  • Go in search of Africa’s Big Five on full day 4WD game drive in Kruger National Park, looking out for lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards and rhinos.
  • Experience the rumble and roar of Victoria Falls from the Zimbabwe side, which gives you the broadest view of its phenomenal torrent.
  • Fall asleep to the sounds of the African wilderness in comfort as camping beds, sleeping bags, blankets and pillows are provided for those nights under the stars.
  • Kick-back with a beer and say cheers to your adventure with an included brewery tour in Victoria Falls, on the last full day of your trip.
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll learn about our Intrepid Foundation partner, Helping Rhinos. Donations support their all-female ranger program in South Africa, which specialises in fighting wildlife crimes and protecting rhinos, and other critically endangered animals, from poachers. Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.

Is this trip right for you?
  • This is an overland trip so you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have sliding windows which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take spectacular snaps of the local wildlife. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie. For more info on this style of travel, see our Africa overland page: intrepidtravel.com/au/africa/overland
  • There will be many early starts either to make use of the better safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.
  • This trip can be partnered with other adventures into a ‘combo’, which means that some of your fellow travellers may carry on to further destinations at the end of this tour. If you’d like to spend more time in Africa, have a look at the combo itinerary: Experience Southern Africa (UBSCC)

Important notes

1. A single supplement is available if you’d prefer not to share a room on this trip. The single supplement applies to all nights of your trip and is subject to availability. Please speak to your booking agent for further information.

2. This trip includes a mixture camping and other accommodation. While camping, tents, sleeping mats and sleeping bags will be provided and set up for you by our crew.

3. On occasion, especially during the peak months of May to September and December we are not able to secure campsites within the Kruger National Park. In this instance we will camp at a backpackers outside the park.

4. Border crossing delays in the region have been sporadic and difficult to predict. What takes an hour one day may take four hours the next. This may affect the order of activities in the itinerary. We understand this uncertainty can be frustrating, and we strongly recommend packing a bit of patience and flexibility.

This trip was excellent but is not for everyone. It involves camping with sometimes minimal facilities, long days with early mornings, and requires some physical ability. That said, I wouldn't have it any other way. This trip was exactly the authentic and immersive experience of Africa I was hoping for.

A proper adventure through Southern Africa. Some long travel days and occasionally basic accommodation but well worth it, a fantastic time with an awesome crew!

This trip was amazing . It exceeded our expectations. We had some long days but for what we saw and the proximity to the animals made it all worth it. It gave us memories for a lifetime . Thank you Intrepid for making this possible.
