A leader's perspective...

Like many a backpacker, I went to Malawi looking for a good party and a half-way break on the Cape to Kenya route. I'd planned on a week, but the better part of a year was gone before I could tear myself away. The self-titled 'warm heart of Africa', simply opens up and takes you in. Every day you find another reason to stay: smiles that go off the brilliance chart, the cheekiest and most entrepreneurial kids you'll meet, night fishing in a dugout canoe, snorkelling among clouds of neon-coloured fish, hiking on lush plateaus, sitting on a veranda watching hippos and elephants at sundown and night skies so bright you can distinguish colours. Malawi is so much more than a beach party, you just have to experience it yourself.
