Intrepid partners with Whale and Dolphin Conservation

Intrepid Travel and Whale and Dolphin Conservation join forces to protect marine life

October 2024

Charity will become the Intrepid Foundation's first UK partner

Intrepid Travel, a world leader in responsible travel, has joined forces with wildlife charity, Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC).

WDC works with business, governments and grassroots communities to find solutions to the threats faced by whales and dolphins.  They aim to reverse the global decline in whale and dolphin populations by creating safe seas, tackling cruelty and raising awareness of them as our allies in the fight against climate change.

Through this partnership, WDC has become the first UK-based charity partner of Intrepid’s non-profit the Intrepid Foundation. The Foundation has made an initial donation of £5,000 and will match customer contributions.

Additionally, WDC’s patron and BBC presenter Julia Bradbury will make a special guest appearance on the February 25 2025 departure of Journey to the Antarctic Circle on board the Ocean Endeavour (prices from £7,936pp). Bradbury will hold a talk for passengers and share her passion for nature, the outdoors and its links to wellbeing.

Hazel McGuire, General Manager UK & Ireland at Intrepid, said: “We’re excited to be working with WDC as our first TIF partner in the UK. The Intrepid Foundation has a long history of supporting wildlife conservation, and our values closely align with those of WDC.  We know that whales and dolphins are facing an unprecedented number of threats – from hunting to marine pollution – and we’re proud to be supporting this worthy cause.”

Julia Bradbury said: “Antarctica is one of the most extraordinary places on our shared planet and so I’m thrilled to be joining this trip of a lifetime. As a patron of Whale and Dolphin Conservation, and someone who is fascinated by these incredibly intelligent, sentient yet vulnerable creatures, I know it will be an emotional experience to see them cruising through the pristine waters of the Antarctic Circle.”

Chris Butler-Stroud, CEO at WDC said: “We are delighted to partner with Intrepid Travel and the Intrepid Foundation on two groundbreaking pieces of work that will help WDC create a world where every whale and dolphin is safe and free. Our patron Julia Bradbury is incredibly excited to join Intrepid’s Journey to the Antarctic Circle trip, it’s a wonderful opportunity for people to experience the Antarctic’s marine wildlife alongside a guest as welcoming as Julia. We are also looking forward to working with the Intrepid Foundation as its first UK partner and sharing the wonderful world of whales and dolphins with their community.”
