South America walking & trekking tours

Some adventures are simply better in hiking boots

There’s a special bond that develops between a trekker and their boots. It starts the moment you take them out of the box and continues long after you lace them up for that final day on the track. Whether you’re following the well-worn paths to Machu Picchu or discovering new twists and turns along Colombia’s Cocora Valley, each step imprints another memory on your sole. By the time you’ve finished the trek your boots will have more stories to tell than a porter on the Inca Trail. Let your feet do the exploring as you take in indigenous cultures and soaring scenery of South America.

Well organised and fun trip, bucket list experience. Carmen was an excellent group leader. Encouraging and engaging with excellent knowledge of Incan history. The porters and chefs are also all incredible, bring enough cash to tip generously because they deserve it! (We each paid 200 soles to split between them) Be aware that if you rent a sleeping bag this is 2kg and is included in the 5kg weight limit for the porters. I recommend packing your day pack as light as possible as this will hinder you with the higher ascents during the trek. One roll of toilet paper should be enough. TP is provided at camp and you only really need it during the toilet stops during the hike (I had two rolls and this was too many, took up too much space in my bag). Expect to be off grid for most of the hike (even providers that said they covered the whole trail didn’t). Be prepared for a tough hike, especially days 2 and 3. Prep with a stair master and work on your general fitness before arrival. Also recommend bringing Diamox as you don’t want any altitude sickness to affect your trip.

This tour beyond exceeded my expectations: the food, culture, history, and Inca Trail trek made for a diverse and incredible experience. Our guide was amazing and was so knowledgeable and motivating during the trek. The food and camping facilities were beyond incredible: everything was set up for us and the meals were delicious, varied, and always on time.
