Why you'll love this trip
  • Discover a land of contrasts and uncover the turbulent history with visits to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek – a sobering but essential experience.
  • Explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed archaeological complex of Angkor with an included day pass. Tour the complex with a local guide, take part in a monk blessing and if you’re keen, maybe even start the day early for sunrise over the temples.
  • Have lunch at Sala Bai Training School in Siem Reap – this school offers disadvantaged students the chance to learn a profession in hospitality. You’ll learn about the NGO’s efforts and tuck into a delicious meal of international and Khmer cuisine.
  • Visit the lakeside village of Kampong Phluck and see the colourful stilt houses that are built to withstand flooding, surrounded by mangrove forests.
  • Be welcomed into a local countryside village for a tour of their agricultural surroundings and enjoy sunset drinks with a local family in their stilt house.

Is this trip right for you?
  • The stories and history shared at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek are confronting and many travellers will find them upsetting. This is an important part of Cambodia’s recent history that we feel is important for travellers to know. If you would prefer not to join these activities your leader can recommend some optional alternatives. Some further information on visiting the Killing Fields of Choeung Ekcan be found here: https://www.intrepidtravel.com/adventures/importance-visiting-cambodia-killing-fields/
  • You will visit several temples on this trip, and this requires a level of modesty. Be sure to bring clothes that cover the arms and pants or skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it’s hot.

Cambodia was incredible! Very eye opening and makes me appreciate the comforts of Australia. Our tour guide, Saram, was incredible! Very knowledgeable and kind. The cold water and aircon on the bus was wonderful

We had a really wonderful time on this tour. It was great to learn the history, see the villages where the locals live & support some of the schools trading youth in many industries.

WOW! I am 26 years old and let me tell you, this trip is truly breathtaking and something I didn't realize I would enjoy as much as I did. The sites are all beautiful, our tour guide was fantastic and played a significant role in making this trip what it was. The accommodations were clean and nice as well as the tour bus they drove us around in. The food is amazing. If you want to see resilience and beauty in a country that has seen and felt true struggle and pain from its past, this is the place for you. I'd recommend it to any real travelers who will see its true beauty and bask in all it has to offer. I am in love with Cambodia and can't wait to go back sometime in the future. This was my first tour with Intrepid and will not be my last with them. Such a great experience!!
