Italy is part of the border-free region in Europe known as the Schengen area, where citizens of participating EU countries are allowed to travel freely between countries. Most nationalities will not need a visa to travel to Italy for up to 90 days, but those from countries that are not yet part of the Schengen free-travel agreement may need to apply for a Schengen visa.
