Why you'll love this trip
  • Visit Little Petra and hike the lesser known back-road into iconic Petra, spending a day exploring the secret hiking trails of this awe-inspiring ancient treasure.
  • Explore the spectacular Dana Reserve on foot – this unbelievably diverse reserve was established to protect wildlife and provide local communities with employment.
  • Wadi Rum is a world unto itself. Hop in a jeep and experience its twisted rock scenery and watch the sun set on a trek through this rugged moonscape
  • The semi-nomadic Bedouins are renowned for their hospitality, so you're in for a treat. Learn about their culture over an earthen oven-cooked feast before sleeping under the stars
  • Experience the best weightlessness this side of outer space with an effortless float in the super-salty waters of the Dead Sea

Is this trip right for you?
  • There is good amount of hiking involved in this trip and also when visiting Jordan's historic sites, especially in Petra and Wadi Rum. A reasonable level of fitness is required. Most of the time there is no shade, so remember to bring a hat, sun protection, and sturdy, comfortable hiking boots or walking shoes.
  • The distances that you will be trekking vary from 14 kilometres to 20 kilometres over a range of terrains, we recommend you consider packing trekking poles for the hikes.
  • The desert camp in Wadi Rum is basic but incredibly memorable. There are tents and shared western bathroom facilities. While the desert may be very hot during the day, it will still be cool at night, so remember to bring some warmer layers, especially if visiting outside of the summer months.

Jordan is an amazing country to explore and has been on my list of places to visit for a very long time, the trip exceeded my expectations. Jordanian's are friendly and helpful and made my trip one to remember, I would encourage you to book a visit now.

The landscape is simply marvellous and the hikes were very beautiful and varied. This trekking trip required a physical rating of 4 out of 5. This criterion was not met. Some group members were definitely below this fitness level. This was not "cool" for them or for the others. For this kind of trip and after reading the description, I've expected people with a similar fitness level. The accommodation was good and the food very tasty. Dinner was usually not included (mentioned in the travel programm) and a restaurant was reserved for the whole group, where we were allowed to order our own food. I personally liked that. Our guide looked after us well and was friendly, but could be a bit more enthusiastic. He was a bit sleepy sometimes. In summary, I have many positive memories of my time in Jordan and had great, nice people in the group. The mixture of culture and more challenging, extended hikes is ideal for getting to know this country at its best and slowly immersing yourself in it.

Visiting Jordan with Intrepid was an excellent way to see so much in a short time. Such an excellent variety of experiences and the guides were wonderful. Small group set up was perfect and the accommodation brilliant. This trip exceeded our expectations and a trip to remember. Would highly recommend if you like a mix of culture and hiking.

Jordan was amazing. As were the views... but, I've lost trust in people and intrepid. Three main reasons - 1) after being repeatedly reassured that we could leave our things, including our valuables with our drivers, myself and another client had money stolen from our bags, 2) I ended up having to regularly buy my own food because my dietary limiations werent handled properly, and, 3) the fitness level of some group members was so low that it detracted from the hikes.

A fantastic active way to see a good selection of sights in Jordan. Definitely worth having a couple of days extra planned to see sights not included in the trip.
