This trip was definitely worth the effort. The hike up Toubkal is long and steep but the views and the accomplishment make it worth while. Our guide Mohammed was great sharing his many years experience with us during the hike.

This is a remote strenuous trip up steep, boulder-covered slopes. You need to be 100% fit and healthy plus have checked all your equipment before going. Poles are a must even for younger treckers to be safe (I never use walking poles normally but needed them on the final day climb).
The guides are excellent, strong and capable of dealing with people struggling which is a great plus that made me feel much safer. Several people either:
- Did not make it to the top due to strength/altitude sickness and were escorted down; or
- Struggled to come down and were helped down safely by the guides.
The mountain refuge was much better than I expected with hot water, mini shop, clean toilets and good food.
The guides also ensured the pace was kept very gentle and kept the group together so anyone reasonably fit could get to the top.
I would certainly recommend having an extra few days in Marakesh in addition to this holiday.
I am a very fit 64-year-old and made it to the top easily but my boots were not big enough making the return painful and two back toes to prove it.
Overall, if you like strenuous hiking routes, this would be an excellent holiday to choose.
