The US has Route 66 and Australia has the Great Ocean Road.
The Great Ocean Road is a winding coastal route of sandstone cliffs and dense rainforest hinterland that stretches all the way from Torquay in the East to Allansford in the West. While the Victorian region is famous for its Twelve Apostles, there are plenty of local secrets to be found if you’re willing to take the time: visit the iconic lighthouse at Airey’s Inlet, spend a night among the green hills of Apollo Bay, or walk through the treetops of the Otway Ranges. Just make sure to stretch your neck muscles in advance: there are head-turning views around every loopy bend.
