- Explore Rome’s ancient wonders like the Colosseum (one of the Seven Wonders of the World), the Forum and Vatican City, immersing yourself in centuries of history and culture.
- Discover the preserved ruins of Pompeii, offering a glimpse into daily Roman life before the city’s tragic fate under Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD.
- Ascend Mt Vesuvius for breathtaking views over the Bay of Naples and witness the powerful crater of this still active volcano. Finish the day with a pizza tasting in Naples – the alleged birthplace of this beloved carb.
- Experience Sorrento’s seaside charm and its famous lemon groves, tasting local limoncello and exploring its vibrant streets and cafes.
- Wander the stunning Amalfi Coast, from historic Amalfi town to the dramatic landscapes of Ravello, offering unparalleled views.
- The primary means of transportation on this trip is by train, offering fast travel across long distances without traffic delays, delivering you directly into city centres. Trains are comfortable and equipped with toilets but can be busy.
- Please note that you'll have to carry your own luggage on and off the trains, as well as up and down stairs at stations and hotels. Please ensure your luggage adheres to our weight and size guidelines outlined in the 'Packing' section of the Essential Trip Information.
- Summer temperatures in many visited regions can exceed 40c, so protect yourself from the sun and stay hydrated. Keep in mind that July, August and early September constitute high season along the Southern Italian coast, impacting local infrastructure due to increased visitor numbers.
- Hotel rooms in Europe may differ from American or Australian standards, often featuring two single beds that can be pushed together instead of a double and shared bathrooms rather than en-suite facilities.
- For those with extra time, consider extending your trip to explore more of Italy. Explore further south into the heel of Italy with our ‘Rome to Southern Italy’ trip (trip code ZMSSC) or head down to Sicily with our ‘Rome to Sicily’ trip (trip code ZMSFC).

Both the climb to the summit of Mt Vesuvius and the hike on the Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei) require a certain amount of fitness. Please read the day-to-day itinerary carefully or speak to your leader for more details. Activities can be opted out of if you don't want to participate.
3.
