Japan: Koya-san & Kumano Kodo Trek

Ray · Traveled May 2024
We had looked a at a number of historical Japanese walking tours when planning our holiday. Even though we hadn’t travelled with Intrepid previously the initial information about our KUMANO KODO trek captured our interest and was easy to interpret and understand. We were immediately excited about what the trip offered. I checked with Japanese work colleagues in Australia and they rated putting the trek on their bucket list. The whole experience exceeded our expectations - the Intrepid tour leader was excellent, having done the trek previously he was well known to accommodation and restaurants along the way and gave us an essence of Japan experience in ways we could never have thought possible, particularly with his exhaustive local knowledge and a personality to match. His first priority at all times was our safety and ensuring everyone in the group were environmentally responsible. This turned out to be a trip of a lifetime and a huge tick added to our bucket list.

Japan: Koya-san & Kumano Kodo Trek

Deirdre · Traveled May 2024
This trip will suit anyone who wishes to be completely immersed in the Japanese culture - the religious foundations, the people, the buildings, the food. This is a feast for the senses with a hybrid of green, lush, tranquil mountains and towns; and bright, bustling city streets. An unforgettable experience that leaves you curious to learn more about Japan and it's incredible culture and history.

A great introduction to Japan! A mixture of city and country experiences. Catching public transport was a breeze and accommodation options were close to amenities and of good quality.

Essential Japan

Daphne · Traveled April 2024
This is a great trip for an introduction to Japan. There is not a lot of time in each place, so I recommend arriving earlier or leaving later to see everything you want. Food is excellent and the guides are great. It’s a super fun experience. Hostels were all clean and tidy but the Japanese mattresses are very hard and often the showers are in the basement.
