Why you'll love this trip
  • Uncover thousands of years of civilisation in Athens with a visit to the world-famous Acropolis and the ancient Agora
  • Like endless pilgrims before you, visit the home of the Oracle of Delphi in the Sanctuary of Apollo, one of Greece's most important archaeological sites
  • Be mesmerised by the magical monasteries of Meteora, an extraordinary site precariously perched on a series of ancient rock pinnacles
  • Discover the many flavours of Greek cuisine. There's nothing quite like dining on rich and hearty moussaka or grilled lamb and tzatziki in a traditional taverna as Rembetika music floats around you

Is this trip right for you?
  • Summer temperatures can be extreme in Greece (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.
  • Hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together.
  • On this trip you must pack as lightly as possible because you will be expected to carry your own bag and although you won't be required to walk long distances with your luggage (max 30 minutes), we strongly recommend keeping the weight under 15kg / 33lb. Most travellers carry their luggage in a backpack, although an overnight bag with a shoulder strap would suffice if you travel lightly. Smaller bags or backpacks with wheels are convenient although we recommend your bag has carry straps to accommodate the cobbled streets, uneven surfaces, stairs and steps you are likely to encounter while carrying your luggage. You'll also need a day pack/bag to carry water and a camera etc for day trips.
  • If you have more time to explore the region you may want to check out our trip ‘Best of Greece’ (trip code ZMSAC). This trip explores the beautiful Cycladic Islands in addition to the Greek mainland. Most departure dates are designed to create this perfect combination trip.

This is our second tour to Greece and we were absolutely thrilled to have the same leader, Dina as we had the first time we visited Greece. We have had an absolutely brilliant time and it was made all the more special because we were able to reconnect with Dina. We love Intrepids travel ethos and we recommend Intrepid to any of our friends considering taking a tour. Small group touring with Intrepid is brilliant.

People have been suggesting Greece as a destination for years in positive ways. Finally able to try for myself. This mainland Greece tour is a fantastic way to see a lot of all of the Greek ways, culture, food, people and history in a short one week. I would recommend this tour and Nasos as a tour leader to anybody. 5 stars.

Mainland Greece tour was exceptional. Destinations were always an environmental and eye opening surprise. Thessaloniki, Meteora (unbelievable) and Delphi (spectacular - along with the Olive farm visit). Our son did this tour in August 2023 and highly recommended it. So happy we took his advice. Nasos our group leader - also exceptional in every way!!!

While the islands of Greece are one of the most popular vacation destinations, Mainland Greece is absolutely worth the trip. Our wonderful local guide Poppy, brought us into her world and culture making it all that more special. Highly recommend.
