Intrepid Travel acquires Kimberley Wild Expeditions’ assets to continue Australian expansion plans
September 2024
Intrepid Travel announces the acquisition of assets from its long-term operating partner Kimberley Wild Expeditions (KWE) in Western Australia. This significant step aligns with Intrepid's 2030 Strategy, aimed at strengthening and expanding its operational capabilities in Australia.
Intrepid and KWE have enjoyed a successful partnership for 17 years working together to deliver exceptional travel experiences in the Kimberley Region. Under the agreement, Intrepid will acquire KWE’s fleet of vehicles and secure a lease on the iconic Bungle Bungle Camp. The acquisition will enable Intrepid to manage the entire operations in the Kimberley Region, ensuring a seamless transition and consolidation of Intrepid's national presence.
Kimberley Wild Expeditions will continue to operate the Kimberley Travellers Lodge and will partner with Intrepid under a standard Agent Sales Agreement to sell products in the region. The acquisition underscores Intrepid’s commitment to sustainability as a B Corp, enhancing its ability to design and deliver culturally enriching and environmentally conscious travel experiences in Australia.
As demonstrated by the recent acquisitions of JOOB and Haka Tours in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, this acquisition further bolsters Intrepid’s vertical integration model and expands its Australian operational capability. Intrepid is proud to continue its investment in Australian tourism and the local community in the Kimbereley region, as well as fostering growth both domestically and internationally.
Brett Mitchell, Managing Director of Intrepid Travel ANZ, said: "We are thrilled to integrate Kimberley Wild Expeditions' assets into our portfolio and continue their amazing work and dedication to the region. This acquisition marks a significant milestone in our commitment to expanding our sustainable and immersive travel experiences in Western Australia and is a testament to our commitment to delivering extraordinary travel experiences while supporting local community-based tourism. We are excited to welcome the KWE team into the Intrepid family and look forward to continuing our journey together.”
James Weeding, Managing Director of Kimberley Wild Expeditions, said: “This acquisition will allow Intrepid to fulfil its operational ambitions within the Kimberley and continue our work and commitment to the region. After partnering with Intrepid for the last 17 years as an operator, it’s the perfect timing for this transition and our team to formally join Intrepid’s business. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Intrepid as an agent and continuing to attract new travellers to the Kimberley.”
