Got a few extra days to play with? Our short breaks might be just the perfect way to use them.
Short breaks are just that – short breaks, a few days of travel, organised by us and experienced by you. Perfect if you’ve got a special site in mind, have unplanned days to fill or simply don’t want your adventure to end yet.
We’ve kept the essence of an Intrepid trip but adjusted the day-to-day to reflect a more independent style of travel. You’ll still have transport and accommodation sorted, but unlike our longer adventures, these trips aren’t run by an Intrepid leader. Instead, expert guides from our local partners will lead you through any included activities like city tours or excursions. Then, in your downtime you’re free to do your own independent exploration.
So, the choice is yours. Why not spend a long weekend eye-to-eye with the Easter Island heads, trekking Patagonia with an experienced guide or trying to spot the Big Five with a wildlife expert on a Kruger National Park safari? Short breaks may be pint-sized but rest assured, they’re no less epic.

From ancient temples and mammoth-sized wildlife to island hideaways and lively cities, add one of the world’s seventh wonders and its highest mountains, and you’ve got an explorer’s paradise. See the slower side of life on a Vietnamese rice farm or be one with the crowds as you stand before the Taj Mahal; no matter where you go, there’s something incredible to see in Asia.
Between scouting the savanna for dazzles of zebra at Kruger National Park or marvelling at the forces of nature at Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls, you’re sure to agree: Africa truly is Mother Nature’s masterpiece. On an Africa short break, you can trek through jungles for gorillas in Uganda, camp under the night sky in the Moroccan Sahara, wind down in the Winelands of Cape Town or even soak up the sun in serene Zanzibar. So, what will you choose?
With a few spare days, venture to the world’s most remote destinations or its busiest cities. From sloth spotting in the Amazon Jungle or glacier hunting in Torres del Paine National Park to rooftop dining on home-cooked barbeques in Buenos Aires or getting lost in the art-filled streets of Santiago – you’re sure to find a way to spend time in the ever-enchanting South America.
Whether you’re paying homage to fallen soldiers at Gallipoli, learning about age-old human civilisations in Petra, or even taking to the skies over Cappadocia – a short break in the Middle East will stay with you long after you’ve had your last mint tea.
From cuddly-looking koalas to laugh-happy birds, a few dozen species of marine life and epic natural vistas, Australia is much more than just a surfer’s paradise. Charge your camera, break out your hiking shoes and don your hats, the land down under has something to show you.
Bite-size, hearty and packed with flavour... while that may sound like a taco, it’s actually a Central American short break. Dive deep into the treasures of Mexico City with days spent exploring ancient archaeological wonders, breaking bread (or tamales) with locals and uncovering the city’s long history with expert guides. So vamos! Mexico awaits.
