For the travelers who like their adventures with a side of beach and sun.
It might be a narrow isthmus that connects North and South America, but don’t let its size fool you because Central America is a region you’ll regret leaving too soon. Not easily convinced? Well, here’s a rundown of a CA trip.
Start by hunting down the best tacos in Mexico City before venturing into the jungle to go ruin spotting in Honduras. Then, relax by the beach in El Salvador before you head south to hike the cloud forests of Costa Rica. Finish with a coffee plantation visit in Boquete then a fresh ceviche in Panama City. Take off your watch because you're on island time now. Caye Caulker is a dreamy Caribbean island off the coast of Belize. You can do as much or as little as you like here. Feeling chilled? Pick a palm tree and let the rustling leaves lull you to sleep. Feeling adventurous? Jump on a snorkeling tour at the world’s second-largest coral reef (no biggie). Feeling hungry? Tuck into fresh grilled seafood — including the island's famous lobsters if they're in season.
We love a good hike, but when flying through clouds over a misty forest is possible, we'll take it! Monteverde Cloud Forest is a very special place. Not only because it's home to more than 2000 plant species, 320 birds and 100 mammals, but also because of how cool (literally) cloud forests are. They're similar to rainforests, but instead of drawing water from the rain, they draw it from semi-permanent, low-hanging clouds that cover the region.
The most famous of the Maya sites on the Yucatan Peninsula, Chichen Itza, is one of the new seven wonders of the world. Which is a little funny considering it’s estimated to have been built between 400 and 600 A.D. El Castillo, the famous pyramid structure, is just one of the significant sites. It is made even more incredible during certain equinoxes when the shadow makes the illusion of a snake ascending the staircase.
