Featuring the world’s most isolated capital city and cattle stations bigger than most European countries, the West Coast of Australia certainly feels like the Final Frontier.
Covering almost the same amount of land as Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria combined means there are plenty of adventures to choose from too. Perhaps visit the waterfalls and red rock gorges of Karijini National Park, take in a lazy sunset camel ride on Cable Beach, or unwind among the vineyards of the Margaret River. One thing’s for sure – when you’re tackling the world’s second-biggest state, it’s well worth calling in the experts.
Explore the rocky walking trails, lush gullies and gorges on offer and then when you’re feeling the heat there are plenty of clear, freshwater rockpools and secluded swimming holes to cool off in.Â
You can snorkel in crystal clear waters over colorful reefs at heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef. With over 250 species of coral and 500 species of fish (including whale sharks), the colors must be seen to be believed.Â
A trip to Purnululu National Park, home of the magnificent Bungle Bungles, is a must. The black and orange striped domes were only locally known until the early 1980s when they were discovered and made a national park.
Taste many different local wines in this beautiful region, including the cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay Margaret River is known for. If you aren’t a wine-lover there are plenty of breweries, cheesemakers and chocolatiers in the region too.Â
Located in the Kimberley, El Questro Wilderness Park has all the highlights within its 700,000 acres. Endless, cascading waterfalls, deep gorges, thermal springs, hidden waterholes, rainforests, salt flats – the list goes on and on.
This 14-mile-long stretch of perfectly white sand is one of Australia’s most stunning beaches. There are plenty of water sports to try, but there’s also an argument for just sitting on the sand and admiring the view.

Perth to Broome Safari

F rom the moment my tour guide Michael pick me up I felt safe and comfortable. His knowledge of this area of Australia was phenomenal, and his demonstrations of how the land formed were very engaging. Our group consisted of ages 25 to 84, with vegans, gluten and nut allergies, but Michael catered to everyone’s needs. His culinary skills amazed, along with his organisation we were all able to enjoyed our trip. My highlight was Karijini National Park. We had an amazing day swimming in the reef with Manta Rays, an optional extra, and of course a day swimming with the Whale Sharks, a must that needs booking in advance. Thank you Michael and Intrepid for giving me an awesome experience that I will remember for ever.

Undisputed highlight of the trip was the experience of Ngilgi Cave with local indigenous guide Josh from Koomal dreaming. Wadjemup (Rottnest Island) is a close second with stunning wildlife and scenery all along its coastline. Rare opportunity to sample products from some of Australia's finest boutique breweries.

Walk Western Australia's Karijini & Ningaloo Reef

Karijini National Park is incredible. So glad I visited as part of a tour. It’s vast and remote. The two guides on our trip were incredible. Tom and Dan clearly love their work, they are people people. It was Dan’s first trip but that did not show. They made sure everyone’s needs were considered, Tom is an excellent cook, and he knows so much about the land, he is respectful and inclusive. Both Tom and Dan have all the qualities needed: flexibility, kindness, hard working, capable, fit and excellent communication skills. Our trip was a dream and an absolute pleasure.
