Port Douglas has a tropical climate with temperatures lingering in the mid-80s for most of the year. Temperatures in the summer (December to February) are often in the high 90s with the hottest month being December, and it's likely to rain a lot during this period. The rainiest months tend to be January, February, March, April and December.
What's the weather like in Port Douglas in July?
As July falls during the dry (winter) season, the temperatures tend to be on the colder side. Having said that, the average high is around 75°F and the low is a mild 61°F, which is still pretty warm for winter. You can still enjoy outdoor activities such as swimming and snorkeling as the water temperatures remain around 74°F.
When is the best time to visit Port Douglas?
Port Douglas is a year-round destination, and the best time to visit depends on your tolerance for heat and the activities you'd like to do. The temperatures can get quite hot in Far North Queensland during the summer, but this is all the more reason to go swimming at Four Mile Beach (but only in the designated swimming enclosure).
To avoid the heat and rain, we recommend planning your trip in winter. The weather is still pretty good and it won't be as humid.
If you visit between October and May and plan on swimming in the ocean, then you should wear a stinger suit to protect your skin from dangerous jellyfish stings.
