Highlights

Two alpacas walking along a trail at Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu, Peru

As far as ancient cities that lay hidden in cloud forests, largely undiscovered for centuries, we’d say Machu Picchu isn’t one to miss. Nestled in the heart of the Peruvian mountains, this UNESCO site is a must-see, and luckily, there are a few ways to get there. Trek the classic Inca Trail, avoid the crowds on the Quarry Trail or train all the way and just enjoy the view. It doesn’t matter how you go. Just make sure you do.

A traveller posing for a photo on the extremely reflective white salt flats of Salar de Uyuni
Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia

The salt flats of Bolivia are the biggest in the world: one massive, unbroken horizon of salt and sky. Because there are no landmarks, no trees or markers or anything to interrupt the view of 10 billion tonnes of salt, you can get up to some pretty crazy visual shenanigans. Hop in a 4WD and explore the flats by day and the star-filled skies at night.

A boat crusing in the waters of the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador
Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

When Charles Darwin sailed the Beagle into the Galapagos, he discovered the planet’s best-kept evolutionary secret: 19 unspoiled islands that would change the way we think about the world. Watch giant tortoises in Isla Isabela, swim with sea lions off the coast of San Cristobal and trek towards the Sierra Negra Volcano; what’s more, while cruising, you may even get a whale or dolphin visitor.

What a great experience. Peru is an amazing country and if you want to see the place in depth Intrepid is a great starting point.

Best of Bolivia & Argentina

Annelisa · Traveled August 2024
Highly recommend this trip for those with a sense of adventure and keen to see something different! The salt flats are stunning and, as we traveled in winter, whilst the desert is extremely cold, it is very well worth it! Thanks to our amazing leader, Karina, for giving us the experience of a lifetime!

Overall trip was good, wlthough there were some unexpected differences from the itinerary provided and extreme cold inside the accommodation (-10ºC) in the Bolivian altiplano.

Awesome trip with a great guides in the form of Kleberth, Sylvia (during the inca trail) and Marisol in Bolivia. The accommodation and effort by the porters and chefs during the inca trail were amazing. Highly recommended to anyone who doesn't mind having a full itinerary and sitting in a bus quite a lot, especially the 1st week.

This trip was very enjoyable, everyone involved in this trip was very agile in working, especially the guide leader (Kleberth) who was very helpful in many ways, he was very responsible for the group and paid attention to many things for the comfort of all members in the group, when we did the Inka trail trip for 4 days, the assistant guide (Sylvia) was very patient and also helped us a lot, she patiently accompanied some members who were tired while climbing, she also paid great attention to our health and safety on the trip and gave me information about fruits and plants that could be eaten during the Inka trail trip, for all the porters I am very grateful for your hard work carrying so many things that we needed during the trip, they were very fast and careful in doing everything, the food was also very delicious and helpful because when climbing you need enough food for energy, the chef was also very creative in making various delicious foods in the middle of the trip to Machu Picchu with all the limitations, we visited several places with local people who were very friendly and so happy with our visit, lastly we visited Bolivia even though it was only for 2 days I am very grateful to Marisol as a Guide in La Paz. thank you for such a wonderful trip Intrepid
